HLP Weight Loss, operated by Healthy Living Pharmacies, is committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and professional environment for all patients. This policy explains how we provide trained chaperones during in-person consultations and health checks at our Childwall and Marshside branches.  

1. Purpose of this policy This policy aims to:

  • Protect the safety, dignity, and privacy of patients.
  • Protect healthcare professionals from misunderstandings or unfounded allegations.
  • Provide a clear process for requesting and using a chaperone.

 

2. When a chaperone may be offered A chaperone is a trained member of staff who acts as a neutral observer during certain parts of a consultation, especially when:

  • A physical examination is required.
  • A procedure involves close contact.
  • The patient or healthcare professional feels one would be beneficial.

 

3. Your right to request a chaperone

  • You may request a chaperone at any point before or during your appointment.
  • We will make every effort to provide a chaperone without unnecessary delay.
  • If a chaperone is not immediately available, you may be offered the choice to reschedule.

 

4. Who can act as a chaperone

  • Chaperones will be trained members of the Healthy Living Pharmacies team.
  • They will understand the procedures taking place and maintain confidentiality at all times.

 

5. Confidentiality

  • Chaperones are bound by the same confidentiality rules as all our staff.
  • Any discussion or observation during your consultation will remain private and only be shared where necessary for your care or required by law.

 

6. Declining a chaperone

  • If you choose not to have a chaperone, this will be recorded in your notes.
  • You will not be treated differently or refused service for declining a chaperone.

 

7. Policy review This policy is reviewed regularly to ensure compliance with General Pharmaceutical Council guidance, NHS England recommendations, and our own safeguarding standards.
